"God is pursuing with omnipotent passion a worldwide purpose of gathering joyful worshipers for Himself from every tribe and tongue and people and nation…Therefore let us bring our affections into line with His, and, for the sake of His name, let us renounce the quest for worldly comforts and join His global purpose."

What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

Haitian Orphans and Child Trafficking

Fox News had a story today titled: Agencies Fear Traffickers Will Target Haiti’s Displaced Children.

Perhaps I am naive, but I was completely unprepared to read this story.  I guess in the sheltered world I live in this never crossed my mind.   In my world, children are protected and kept safe and nurtured.  In the face of disaster, we’re supposed to do whatever we can for our kids.

I am sitting here not even wanting to believe that there is such evil in this world that someone could actually even consider the act of scooping up a child with the intent on some kind of financial or material gain in exchange for the exploitation, harm, or abuse of that child.  Hear me:  the simple act of considering it is evil.  Carrying it out is something entirely different that I don’t have words for.

What is truly sad here is that the threat of this trafficking will likely put a hault to any adoptions from Haiti for a very long time.  The one thing that might bring a little hope to these kids has been stripped away from them by pure evil.
